Signature Author Grant Palmer Dies
With great sadness, we report the death of Grant H. Palmer who lost a months-long battle with pancreatic cancer on September 25, 2017. He leaves behind his wife, Connie, four children, five step children, and thirteen grandchildren.
Grant spent thirty-four years in the LDS Church Education System, teaching institute and seminary, and served as a chaplain at the Salt Lake County jail for thirteen years. In 2002 Signature Books published Grant’s important book, An Insider’s View of Mormon Origins, in which Grant scrutinized many of Mormonism’s foundational stories. The book has remained popular in print as well as on Kindle. Grant went on to publish two additional books, The Incomparable Christ in 2005, and earlier this year, Restoring Christ: Leaving Mormon Jesus for Jesus of the Gospels.
Despite his illness, Grant made a few public appearances this year. In February, Mormon Stories hosted a Facebook Live event and in August held a final evening with him. Friends were also able to speak with him briefly in July when he attended a session at the annual Sunstone Symposium.
Grant remained friendly to his former faith and with people in and out of the church. Signature Books is proud to have known him, and we send our deepest condolences to the family. Grant’s funeral will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Drive, in Sandy, Utah, on Friday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be held at the funeral home on Thursday night from 6–8 p.m. and again on Friday morning from 9–10:30.
